About the Department of Oncology

Introduction to the Department of Oncology

The creation of the Department of Oncology in autumn 2010 marked an exciting step towards truly multidisciplinary and collaborative oncology research in Oxford and positions researchers in the field to take this discipline to new heights.  The Department maximises opportunities for inter-departmental and inter-institutional collaborations to ensure that it is at the forefront of oncology research and attracts long-term funding.

The Department of Oncology is very active in the area of clinical research and houses the Oncology Clinical Trials Office (OCTO). It is also home to the Oxford Cancer Imaging Centre (OCIC) and the Gray Institute for Radiation Oncology and Biology and has close links with the Oxford Cancer Research Centre (OCRC).

The Department is led by Professor Gillies McKenna MD Ph.D., an active clinician and researcher in radiation oncology.
