We can fully expect that the information from the genome project, combined with epidemiologic and other genetic studies, will pinpoint the series of events, in germ cells and somatic cells, that result in the initiation and progression of the various cancers. Within 10 years, the treatment and prevention of at least one of the major common cancers should be within reach.
