Various applications of grid computing which play an important role in solving biological problems, health care and help in a deeper understanding of evolutionary processes, are discussed. During SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) in Asia, Feb. 2003, the collaborative technology provided remote accessibility and the grid-based infrastructure is developing techniques to combat the disease in future. BIRN provides an application driver for the National Science Foundation-funded OptIPuter [10], which seeks to upgrade the VDG to a LambdaGrid by replacing the Internet2, with an optical network. The development of targeted grids provides practical solutions to individual problems and is also important in the overall development of grid technology.
