Rosie Lomas

Rosie has been working within the Early Phase Clinical Trials Unit since July 2018. Prior this she had experience working in Head & Neck and Thoracic oncology at Guy's and St Thomas' and King's College Hospitals in London.

As a research nurse she acts as a point of contact for patients taking part in Early Phase Clinical research throughout their involvement within a trial. There are 8 research nurses on the team and 5 ward staff on the dedicated Early Phase unit.

Rosie organises appointments, imaging and other tests alongside the wider team including the haematology and oncology wards, radiology and different hospitals across the UK.  In addition research nurses provide emotional and practical support to patients and their families throughout their treatment.

She has a particular interest in improving links between palliative care and early phase treatment and has helped in piloting holistic assessments and early referrals for this group of patients.  Rosie presented a piece of work entitled 'Understanding Challenges to Palliative Care Engagement within the Early Phase Trials Setting' at the National Cancer Research Institute 2019 Conference. This was awarded best poster at the Celebrating Cancer Nursing Conference in Oxford in early 2020.
