Annabelle Ziegler
 has recently joined the Department as part of the Admin Support Team. In this '60 seconds with...', Annabelle highlights the ways the Admin Support Team helps Oncology staff on a daily basis, and gives a view of the UK through antipodean eyes!

You work in the Admin Support Team. Please give us a flavour of what the team works on.

The Admin Support Team covers a plethora of areas designed to support processes and tasks associated with work that the Department undertakes - be it research, strategic, or support related - allowing the Department to move forward successfully in a range of activities.

What are the types of queries you face on a day to day basis, and how can the Admin Support Team give guidance to members of the Department?

The types of queries include:

  • Visa enquiries for incoming students, staff, and visitors to Department;
  • Requests to organise and promote seminars, conferences, and other events;
  • The facilitating of  the arrival and transition of visitors to the Department; and
  • Assisting researchers with a range of other administrative tasks as needed to help the Department run as smoothly as possible.

There are many other areas of support we can offer, so if you're unsure just get in touch.

This is your first role at the University. What have you enjoyed about working in Oxford and the Department so far? Any tips for other colleagues and students new to the city and the Department?

I enjoy working with the Department’s staff, students and visitors as everyone is highly motivated and seeks to perform to the best of their ability. My top tip would be to explore the colleges and buildings of the University, both on the campuses in Headington and in the city centre. I also enjoy exploring the trails and parks of Oxford. Some of my favourite places to visit are University Parks and Christ Church Meadow.

As a native Australian, what has been the biggest surprise upon arriving on UK shores, aside from the
fantastic weather?

The biggest surprise has been the proximity of the different cities and towns of England. It is so easy to go on weekend trips to London or to explore some of the towns and villages of Oxfordshire. I look forward to exploring more of the UK during my time here and am always looking for suggestions for places to visit!
