Schools and Colleges
Students studying for GCSE, AS and A’ Levels will be the PhD students of the 2020s.
We want to play our part in inspiring them with a love of science and encouraging them to consider careers in science, careers allied to cancer medicine, and cancer research.
We visit many schools each year both locally and more widely. Some of these visits focus on our science, others illustrate the careers of our scientists. If your school would like to request a visit please contact us.
We have developed a number of games and activities which allow students to experience the science and make the sessions more interactive. Our activities illustrate biology, chemistry, physics and maths. They are as true to the science as possible and have worked well and received very positive feedback. Some of resources are available from TES.
Annual School Video Competition
During Michaelmas term (October - December) each year we run our school video competition with prizes for the top three videos, as judged by our panel of scientists, communicators and video specialists. The competition is aimed at pupils in Years 10-13 who are asked to produce a 2 minute video to help explain our science, here in Oxford.
2015 - Sarah Mok, Sarah Lua, Lena Albot, and Jasmin Panesa from Wycombe Abbey School, England
2015 - Chandana Nagaraj and Thurza Naing from Bancrofts School, England
2015 - Chris Carter, Queen Elizabeth School, England
2014 - Maggie Boyd and George Genc, Burford School, England.

If you think you can do better contact us to be put on the mailing list for the next competition which will open in late September. Winners receive Amazon vouchers, a trophy and an invitation to visit our labs.
As part of our celebration of National Science and Engineering Week, we support the Cancer Research UK Oxford Centre Open Day. School groups from across Thames Valley are invited to meet our scientists and find out about their work. If you would like to be contacted about the next event, please contact us.
