The Live Tissue Facility is designed to boost the translational impact of oncological research without users having to independently create ethics applications and collection logistics.

The live tissue unit is the most recent SRF to be added to the available facilities within the Department of Oncology. All work is carried out under overarching ethics approval (HTA recognised ethics through IRAS and approved tissue banks), and this fully equipped laboratory comes with technical and pathologist support. This facility is designed to provide a hub for preclinical assessment of samples within the Thames Valley area.

The facility comes equipped with two Class II hoods, a CO2 incubator, as well as a Leica tissue slicer and centrifuge. Within this facility, human samples can be surgically resected and placed in culture in well under 30 minutes.
