Luana Campos Soares
My research involves understanding the mechanisms that regulate the maintenance of neural and glioma stem cell populations, specifically the cues that allow a switch from proliferation towards differentiation and tissue commitment. I am currently investigating the role of the protein lectin Galectin-3 and the scaffold protein RASSF1A in this process. In order to do that, I use in vitro models of neural induction of pluripotent stem cells. We hope to understand whether these protein pathways can be targeted to combat the glioma stem cell pool, which impairs response to treatment.
I graduated from Universidade Estadual Paulista - UNESP in Brazil (2014) with a major in Biology. I then obtained my Masters in Oncology (2016) at A.C.Camargo Cancer Center working with pathways involved in glioma progression.
