Proteostasis in DNA repair
RESEARCH SUMMARY
My research interest is in identifying key molecular events promoting DNA replication and DNA repair, in particular those related to cancer and the response to radiotherapy. Specifically, I investigate how the p97/VCP-ubiquitin system and associated regulatory phenomena conduct cellular adaptations upon DNA damage. Our research uncovers molecular features associated to tumour survival and radiosensitivity, with the ultimate goal of implementing translational therapeutics.
BIOGRAPHY
Ignacio holds a BSc in Chemistry and received his PhD degree in Biochemistry (University Autonoma of Madrid, Spain) with a Thesis on intracellular signalling. He then joined the CPP Department at University of Leicester (UK) to specialize in signal transduction from GPCRs, before moving on to the biotechnology sector. While in industry, he worked extensively on cell metabolism and immunotherapies to tackle medical disorders. In 2013, Ignacio moved to Oxford to begin work at the Department of Oncology in the DNA Damage Response group.
