DNA Ligases

© 2013 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved. DNA ligases are enzymes that catalyze the joining together of two DNA ends, in a manner that requires either adenosine triphosphate (ATP) or NAD+. DNA ligases are hugely important in molecular biology and biotechnology, particularly for their role in gene cloning. They play essential roles in DNA replication and repair processes, and defects in DNA ligase activity in humans can lead to cancer and immunodeficiency.
