Charlotte is an Apprentice in the Department, working towards an NVQ in Business Administration.
In this interview, Charlotte tells us her reasons for choosing this career path and why she enjoys the variety her role provides.

Can you tell us a little about your apprenticeship and the qualification you're working towards?

I am taking a Business Administration Level 2 Apprenticeship, which involves completing an NVQ and a portfolio of projects and objectives that I have been set in different areas of the Department. I will be attending Abingdon & Witney College for the next 10 weeks to learn different skills to support my progression.

What made you choose this career path?

I took Business Studies at GCSE and then carried it on at A Level as I enjoyed it so much, this is when I decided I wanted to continue on to a Business Administration Apprenticeship. I think it also helped that I had the opportunity to do a week's work experience in the Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism (OCDEM) at the Churchill hospital. Throughout the week I was able to work within different administration roles, which supported my decision for what I would like to do as a career.

Talk us through your role in the Department

When I first applied for the job, I knew instantly that it was going to be a varied role, which is what I wanted as I felt it would help me to choose a more specific pathway which I may want to go down in the future. Over the next 18 months I will be working with a variety of different teams which includes the PA team, Graduate Studies, Facilities, HR and the IT team.

It sounds like there's a lot of variety, is there any aspect of the job so far that you've particularly enjoyed?

In my first 2 weeks in the Department I spent some time with each of the different teams I would be working with. I really enjoyed this as no day was the same and it gave me an idea of the different things they get up to on a day-to-day basis. I then worked with the Graduate Studies team in November, which involved more in-depth work on the type of things they do, and now, I am currently with Facilities and it is completely different, which I enjoy.

What do you like to do to relax?

In my spare time I try and get out as much as I can where I can enjoy fresh air due to being in an office most of the day.
